Question: How many smoke detectors do I need in my home and where should I place them?
Answer: The quantity and positioning of smoke detectors in the US is governed by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). The NFPA recommendations usually form part of the local building codes.
At minimum you should have a smoke detector on each floor and one in each bedroom. As well as having smoke detectors in the hallways leading to bedrooms.
If you have any doubts or questions regarding the exact locations to place smoke detectors I suggest that you visit your local fire station and ask for their recommendations.
