Question: I have two sconce light fixtures on a wall that I want to wallpaper. Should I remove the sconce light fixtures or wallpaper around them?
Answer: To obtain the neatest finished wallpapering it is best to remove the sconce light fixtures before wallpapering.
- Turn the power off to the sconce light fixtures.
- Remove the sconce light fixtures from the wall.
- Remove any screws and brackets that are connected to the electrical box that protrude from the wall.
- Tuck the wires into the electrical box.
- Wallpaper over the electrical boxes. The wallpaper around the electrical box may crease. In order to get the wallpaper smooth, trim the wallpaper around the electrical box as soon as you have that piece of wallpaper in its correct position. A razor blade knife works best.
- Allow the wallpaper glue to dry and then replace the sconce light fixtures. If you attempt to install the sconce light fixtures before the wallpaper glue has dried, you may pull the wallpaper seams apart when tightening the sconce light fixtures to the wall.
