Problem: Poured concrete wall does not provide adequate noise reduction
Cause: Holes or honeycomb penetrations in the structure and no seal at the foot of the drywall.
Solutions:
- Seal all obvious fissures or holes with grout or plaster before finishing the wall.Seal the gap at the bottom of the drywall for extra security as shown in Figures 10a and 10b.
Figure 10a - Poured-Concrete Wall Can Allow Sound Transmission
Note 1: Open passage between base of drywall and concrete floor provides a noise transmission path.
Figure 10b - Drywall And Sealant Covering A Poured-Concrete Wall
Note 2: Sealant blocks the transmission path for noise.
