Problem: Visible joints, ridging and tape delamination of drywall.
Cause: Improper drywall installation.
Moisture absorption can cause expansion and powdering of the gypsum core of the drywall sheets with the resultant of delamination of the paper face and mold growth.
Solutions:
- Fasten boards from the center outward to avoid putting them into compression. Do not force oversized panels into place.
- Minimize butt joints by using the longest sheets possible.
- Install metal studs with all flanges facing the same direction and mount drywall in the direction opposite to flanges as shown in Figure 68. This prevents flange deflection and joint problems.
