Problem: Difficulty in operating a door or window.
Cause: Inadequate fastening and support of doors.
Solutions:
- Use shims at all hinge and hardware locations.
- At least two screws per hinge should pass through both the frame and the shim and penetrate at least 1-3/16 inch(30 mm) into solid wood as shown in Figure 27.

- Don't drive screws with a hammer.
- Consider using heavier-gauge ball-bearing hinges for wider exterior doors.
