Over time your roof will become dirty due to dirt in the air as well your roof can end up with moss and mildew growing on it. This roof cleaner will remove most dirt, moss and mildew.
Caution: Falling off a roof is one of the common home accidents. Make sure that you feel secure when working on your roof and always practice proper ladder safety. Working on roofs with high slopes requires the use of a safety harness that is properly secured.
Mix the chlorine bleach into the hot water and then add the powdered laundry detergent. Stir thoroughly until the all of the powdered laundry detergent granules are dissolved.
Using a garden sprayer spray the solution onto the surface of the roofing material and allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes but do not allow it to dry.
Note: It is best to use this solution on a cool day so that the solution does not evaporate as soon as it hits a hot roof.
If you have a hard surface roofing material such as wood shakes, clay tile or metal you can scrub the surface with a stiff bristled broom. If you have asphalt shingles use a soft bristled broom or mop. Take care not to scrub the shingles to the point where the granular coating is being removed.
Rinse the roof with clean water.
For the best results on hard surface roofing materials use a pressure washer to rinse the roof. However, be cautious, as a pressure washer can easily damage shingles and other roofing materials.
For shingled roofs, to avoid damage it is best to use a garden hose to rinse the roof.
