A PEX plumbing system is configured using three basic sets of components:
- Manifold:
- Tubing / Piping
- Fittings / Couplings / Valves
The manifold, Figure 1, is the primary distribution connection for a PEX water system. A main hot and cold feed come into the manifold and numerous runs of PEX tubing leave the manifold to deliver hot or cold water to each plumbing fixture.
A PEX plumbing system is configured using three basic sets of components:
Figure 1 - PEX tubing manifold
The tubing (Figure 2) or piping takes the water from the manifold and delivers it to each plumbing fixture. The tubing is available in a variety of sizes from 1/4 to 2 inch and in colors so that hot and cold water lines can be coded for easy of installation and repair.
Figure 2 - PEX Tubing
PEX tubing is connected to the manifold and plumbing fixtures using specially designed fittings, couplings and valves.
The fittings, couplings and valves, as shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5, are usually made of brass with a crimp ring that holds the fitting, coupling or valve in position and seals the fittings, couplings and valves to the tubing.
