Lumber and Wood Weights

Knowing the weight of lumber or wood can come in handy if you are doing load calculations for a floor or deck. As well knowing the weight of lumber can be important if you are planning on transporting a load of lumber from the lumber yard to your home, as shown in Figure 1.

Table 1 provides a list of common lumber/wood species and their weights, green, by board foot and common construction grade sizes.

Note: A board foot of lumber/wood is 12 inches long, 12 inches wide and 1 inch thick, (144 sq. inches).
